Two is One,One is None, three's a crowd... four's a flush and im frustrated.

There comes a time in your life when you have time and the patience to romanticize notions especially hobbies and how cool your skills are and how great it is. For instance. If you see a commercial for folders you see that old farmer setting at the table. Getting ready for a long day working cattle and undoubtedly passing on timeless wisdom to those lucky enough to share a cup... I don't want to wade cow manure all day dude... I just want a cup of coffee.

So then there's those folks like me that yeah,I've got some cool gear and I love my elaborate shelters and kits that I've tailored and fiddled and tuned just so... but sooner or later I don't want to be out doing a bow drill fire just to make my ramen noodles. I just want the noodles dang it. Or my hands are numb and the four year old is cranky and sleepy and we just need a fire to get bedded down... or there's no electricity and the windchill is negative 15. It's time for fire. Biiiiiiig fire.

Farrr. Noun. Ex: "they's a farrr overe."

Then it's time to have gear that just works. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of having a nuclear option. I carry a Bic every day. And I'm half tempted to carry tinders that'd start under water. I dint want to be cold any lore than I have to. You shouldn't either. This other stuff is all fun and should be practiced. But ya know... six Bic lighters weigh less than my flint and steel kit.

So. I challenge you... what in your gear do you romanticize, and what is there purely for function. To count on no matter what? We all do it. And is it a bad thing? I mean... im enjoying myself right ?
